Our Sand Range

Pentney Building Sand

Our washed Pentney building sand is a light coloured 0-2mm sand that is suitable for producing mortar, and is often used in lime mortar mixes.

Caistor Dry-Screened Building Sand

Caistor dry-screened building sand is an ginger coloured 0-2mm sand that is suitable for producing mortar.

Pentney Sharp Sand

A washed sharp sand produced at our Pentney quarry ideal for slab-laying, plastering, and rendering. This product has a light colour to it, and is graded to a 0-4mm.

Bilney Sharp Sand

A coarse, sharp concreting sand suitable for use in slab-laying, screeding, and concrete mixing. This product is dark orange/red in colour and is graded to a 0-4mm.

As-Dug Sandfill

An inexpensive backfill material suitable for a wide range of applications such as utilities, bulk fill, or as trench fill. ‘As Dug’ Sandfill may contain stones which make it unsuitable for use around pipework and cable ducts.  Please note that our sandfill products are NOT suitable for horse arenas.

Screened Sandfill

Screened sandfill is suited well for use around cable ducts and piping as any large stone that can be found in the ‘As Dug’ material has been screened out leaving a finer fill material option. Please note that our sandfill products are NOT suitable for horse arenas.

4-10mm Baston Gravel

A rounded edged, yet fairly flat sandy coloured natural gravel that has been washed and graded. Regularly used on pathways.

6-14mm Baston Gravel

A rounded edged, yet fairly flat sandy coloured natural gravel that has been washed and graded. Regularly used on garden paths, driveways, and carparks.

10-20mm Baston Gravel

A rounded edged, yet fairly flat sandy coloured natural gravel that has been washed and graded. Regularly used on driveways and carparks.

10-20mm Norton Gravel

A very rounded blue/white, blue/grey coloured natural gravel that has been washed and graded. Well suited as a decorative gravel around a garden or water feature due to its well rounded appearance.

4-10mm Pentney Gravel

An angular natural gravel that has been washed and graded. It is rough edged, but naturally so, as it is not crushed.

10-20mm Pentney Gravel

An angular natural gravel that has been washed and graded. It is rough edged, but naturally so, as it is not crushed.

Our Crushed-Gravel Range

Crushed gravels are ideal for drainage work and pipe bedding, though are best avoided for use on driveways due to the sharp edges. See below all of the types we do and get in touch today if you have any questions.

4-10mm Crushed Gravel

Crushed gravel is well suited for pipe bedding and drainage purposes.

10-20mm Crushed Gravel

Crushed gravel is well suited for pipe bedding and drainage purposes.

20-40mm Crushed Gravel

The larger 20-40mm crushed gravel is more often used for land drainage work.

Pentney Reject Stone

Ranging approximately between 40-150mm in size, a large percentage of this material falls into the 40-90mm bracket, and is used regularly for soakaways.

Bilney Reject Stone

Ranging approximately between 40-200mm in size, a large percentage of this material falls into the 100-150mm bracket, so is often used to fill gabion baskets, or for larger soakaways.

Our Subbase Range

Type 1 Granite

A primary aggregate widely used in the construction industry in the UK. Often required or preferred for specific applications such as roadway construction as it is superior to crushed concrete or brick. This granite has been processed to a MOT Type 1 specification.

Graded Hoggin

A combination of sand, clay, and gravel ideal for use as a subbase in various construction projects, such as a capping layer, for oversights, or for driveways. Available at a 0-75mm grading.

Screened Asphalt Planings

A recycled aggregate consisting of asphalt which has been acquired from road resurfacing projects, our recycled planings are screened at 60mm down to dust. Suitable for driveways, compounds, or farm track reinstatement.

Crushed Asphalt

A recycled aggregate processed from asphalt and concrete that has been crushed from demolition works and graded at 60mm down to dust. It is ideal for farm track reinstatement, as well as various other construction subbase applications. (Occasionally a 0-40mm grade will be available as well).

Crushed Brick

Brick rubble from demolition work that has been crushed, screened, and graded to 6F5 spec. Regularly used as a capping layer, for a piling mattress, or as a base for a roadway.

Crushed Concrete

Broken concrete from demolition work that has been crushed, screened, and graded to 0-60mm. Widely used as a subbase material across East Anglia for many construction applications due to our reliance on a high percentage of recycled materials.

Our Carrstone Range

Carrstone Downs – A sandstone hoggin material ideal for use as a subbase or for use as a capping layer in construction. Due to the fines content this can be compacted very well, making it suitable for building patios or larger projects like roadways. Available in the following sizes: 0-10mm, 0-50mm, 0-75mm, or 0-125mm.

Carrstone Straights – A sandstone hoggin material similar to the carrstone downs, but with a largely reduced amount of fines. This makes the product better suited for use as a deep fill material or for walling projects. Available in the following sizes: 50mm, 75mm, or 125mm.

0-10mm Carrstone Downs

Also known as ‘Carrstone Fines’, this sandstone hoggin aggregate is often used as a blinding-fill. This product is mostly fines with some lumps of carrstone up to 10mm in size.

0-50mm Carrstone Downs

A primary aggregate, this sandstone hoggin is used mainly as a capping layer, for oversights, or for driveways as it packs down very well. This product is graded from 0-50mm.

0-75mm Carrstone Downs

A primary aggregate, this sandstone hoggin is used mainly as a capping layer, for oversights, or for driveways as it packs down very well. This product is graded from 0-75mm.

0-125mm Carrstone Downs

This larger grade sandstone hoggin is used mainly for building up a level before being capped by one of the smaller grades. This product is graded from 0-125mm.

50mm Carrstone Straights

A sandstone hoggin material similar to the carrstone downs, but with a largely reduced amount of fines. This makes the product better suited for use as a deep fill material or for walling projects. Graded to 50mm with a reduced amount of fines.

75mm Carrstone Straights

A sandstone hoggin material similar to the carrstone downs, but with a largely reduced amount of fines. This makes the product better suited for use as a deep fill material or for walling projects. Graded to 75mm with a reduced amount of fines.

125mm Carrstone Straights

A sandstone hoggin material similar to the carrstone downs, but with a largely reduced amount of fines. This makes the product better suited for use as a deep fill material or for walling projects. Graded to 125mm with a reduced amount of fines.

Rockery Lumps

Large lumps of carrstone which can be used in gardens, rockerys, and for walling.

Screened Topsoil

Our topsoil is graded through a 20mm sieve to remove any large stones and produce a good quality landscaping and gardening material. Can be used for growth in conjunction with composted materials or fertiliser.

0-10mm Premix

A sand and gravel mix, ready for use in making concrete.

6-14mm Norwegian Granite

We stock a large selection of decorative aggregates to beautify home and commercial garden spaces, to line footpaths and to provide aesthetic benefits to outdoor areas. The 6-14mm granite chippings size makes it great for a pathway or for a contrasting border around a garden.

0-5mm Norwegian Granite Dust

Although granite dust can be used in some bespoke projects (such as boules pitches), it is most commonly used as either a base under artificial grass surfaces, or as a blinding aggregate on other subbase materials.

40mm Plum Slate

We stock a large selection of decorative aggregates to beautify home and commercial garden spaces, to line footpaths and to provide aesthetic benefits to outdoor areas.

Clay

A blue engineering clay suitable for use in lining landfill refuse cells, as pond lining, for compaction, and many other construction and agricultural applications. Our clay is quarried from our clay pit near King’s Lynn and can be collected from our Blackborough End collection site or delivered within Norfolk, Suffolk, South Lincolnshire, or Cambridgeshire.
